Recently, the National Standards for Coal-based Mixed Pentene drafted by China Energy Group’s Coal-to-Liquid and Chemical Co., Ltd. was approved and released by the Standardization Administration of China (SAC), and will be officially adopted on July 1 this year. The Standards not only fills the gap in China’s coal-to-olefin (CTO) industry, but will also mark a milestone in the development of China’s CTO industry.

The entire process from project approval to the drafting and release of the National Standards for Coal-based Mixed Pentene took two years and a half. In November 2015, the company began applying for approval of the Standards as a technological innovation project of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The draft of the Standards was submitted to China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA) in March 2018, and was approved and released after assessment, notification and review by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the SAC.

Prior to this, there was a lack of international, national or industry standards for coal-based mixed pentene both at home and abroad, which led to unscientific and irrational practices in terms of technical requirements for products, examination methods and sales. The newly-released National Standards for Coal-based Mixed Pentene can not only effectively increase the economic benefits for CTO enterprises, but will also provide guidance and reference for the production of CTO products by newly-built facilities and exert a profound influence on healthy and orderly development of China’s CTO industry.
