Two Counties in NW China Out of Poverty with Assistance of China Energy

Mizhi and Wubu counties in Yulin, northwest China, two impoverished counties assisted by China Energy, had officially shaken the shackles of poverty, according to a notice published on the official website of the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province.

China Energy started to assist Mizhi and Wubu in poverty reduction efforts in 2002 and 2013 respectively. The corporation introduced a raft of measures include developing industries, increasing sales of local farm produce, improving farmers’ skills, supporting education and medical care and strengthening Party building, and invested a total of 87.73 million yuan in helping these two counties. As a result, more than 44,000 people in these two counties have shaken off poverty and now live a prosperous life.

Since 2016, China Energy has put 21.37 million yuan in improving water and power facilities, roads and farmland in these two counties. In a targeted approach, the fund was used to build solar street lamps and a bridge over a river in Mizhi, install water purifiers for rural households in eight poor villages in Wubu, and renovate bridges and culverts in Gongjiashan settlement. The living environment in more than 30 poor villages was thus greatly improved.

In 2018, China Energy invested 4 million yuan and funded the building of the sixth kindergarten in Mizhi, the first public preschool facility in the east of the county. It also gave financial support to 2,760 college students in Mizhi and Wubu so that they could finish their higher education.

At the same time, China Energy launched training programs of electrical engineering and electric wielding skills for registered poor households. A total of 21 trainees obtained certificates. In collaboration with the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, China Energy invested 2.4 million yuan in training leading lights of apple cultivation professionals. A total of 48 people in Mizhi County received the training and helped boost the development of mountainous apple cultivation business. The corporation also built a training center in the county, which has launched 15 training programs of practical know-hows for more than 5,000 farmers.
