The 2019 International High-Level Forum on Clean Power Engineering Technology & China Energy International High-Level Forum on Clean Energy was recently held in Beijing. Jointly sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), and China Energy, the forum was held under the theme of “providing clean power and advancing energy revolution.” Li Xiaohong, President of the CAE, Zhang Jianhua, Director of the National Energy Administration, Zheng Baosen, President of the Executive Council of the CSEE, and Wang Xiangxi, Secretary of the Leading Party Members Group and Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Energy, were present and delivered opening remarks. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, and other 10 academicians from research institutes like the CAE, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, and the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering made keynote academic reports to the forum, which was attended by close to 200 academicians and experts from home and aboard.

In his remarks, Wang Xiangxi said that green and low-carbon development has become an international consensus. The fossil fuel technology that doesn’t pollute is bringing profound changes to economic and social landscape and people’s lifestyle, he said. Staying true to its original mission and serving the national strategy, China Energy has been implementing innovation-driven and high-quality development to advance industrial transformation and upgrading. The corporation has managed a host of major achievements in pollution-free and efficient coal production, ultra-low emission in coal-fired power generation, intelligent power generation, direct liquefaction of 1 million ton coals, indirect liquefaction of 4 million ton coals, and heavy-duty railway transport.

Looking forward, China Energy is committed to green, low-carbon and sustainable development. It is ready to join hands with all stakeholders in scientific and technological innovation so as to advance the productive utilization of conventional energy in a pollution-free way and large-scale development of renewable energy and new energy. In this way, the corporation will push China’s energy consumption mix to shift to a cleaner, low-carbon, safer and effective one, and make new contribution to global energy revolution and clean power generation.

China Energy has been committed to developing clean and efficient energy. With complete research and development supporting system combining with its industrial entities, the corporation has made a myriad of industrial achievements. It has built the world’s largest wind farm with its installed capacity of wind power reaching 3.8 million kilowatts, the first ultra-low emission coal-fired generating units in China, and Taizhou Power Plant which has the highest comprehensive energy efficiency with ultra-supercritical coal burning by secondary reheating technology. More than 90 percent of its coal-fired power generating units realized ultra-low emissions, with pollutants lower than the national level. The corporation has made major breakthroughs in core technologies of direct liquefaction of 1 million ton coals, indirect liquefaction of 4 million ton coals each year, and coal-to-olefin generation with an annual output of 600,000 tons. Demonstration projects for these technologies have been established. Shangwan Coal Mine of Shenhua Shendong Coal Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Energy, has the world’s first 8.8-meter intelligent coal mining working face with solely independent property rights. China Energy also makes active efforts in developing carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. It built the world’s first CCS demonstration project with an annual output of 100,000 tons, covering the whole process of the coal chemical industry. Great energy has been devoted to the technology of copper, indium, gallium selenide thin-film solar cells. A five-pronged integrated industrial chain for solar energy industry has taken shape. China Energy took the initiative in launching the National Alliance of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell in an effort to explore the commercialization of hydrogen energy in China.
