On October 1, Zhang Xi, general manager of Tibet New Energy Company affiliated to China Longyuan Electric Power Group Corporation under China Energy, joined other representatives of central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to appear on the “Spring Tides” float highlighting China’s achievements in reform and opening-up in a mass pageant following a military parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China held in Tian’anmen Square in Beijing.
Zhang used to work in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, and since he relocated to Tibet Autonomous Region in 2007, he has been dedicating himself to the power industry on the plateau for 12 years. He led a team in building a large-scale water-optic storage microgrid power station in Ngari Prefecture, which is the highest in the world in altitude, overcame the most challenging difficulties in construction, and is the first of its kind in China. They established the world’s highest-altitude wind farm in Nagqu, which is the first-ever wind power project in Tibet Autonomous Region. He has also endeavored to help the regional government solve the problem of power supply for 700,000 farmers and herders of 170,000 households, which earned him nickname “Bright Tashi” (lit. Bright Blessing) from local Tibetans. Zhang has won a number of honorary titles including Role Model of Central SOEs, National Model Worker, Outstanding CPC Member of Central SOEs and Best Figure of Central SOEs.
