On December 13, the China Energy-invested Unit 1 of Java 7 2×1050MW coal-fired power generation project was officially put into operation. With independent intellectual property rights and the largest individual installed capacity of any overseas thermal generation unit invested and built by a Chinese enterprise, the project represents China Energy’s commitment to helping promote the alignment of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Indonesia’s Global Maritime Fulcrum.

Located in Banten, the Island of Java, Indonesia, the Java 7 project lies about 100 kilometers from Jakarta, capital of Indonesia. With a total investment of 12 billion yuan (US$1.71 billion) and a gross installed capacity of 2×1050MW, the project is expected to produce about 15 billion kWh of electricity annually when it goes into operation, which will improve the current power supply situation in the country and greatly relieve power shortages in Java.

The project is also the coal-fired power unit with the highest number of annual utilization hours in the power industry of Indonesia, and has created many world records among million-kilowatt thermal power plants: the largest lignite boiler in the world (output 3100t/h, weight 37,000t), generator with the largest capacity (1240MVA), three-phase transformer with the largest capacity (1330MVA), largest medium speed coal mill in a power plant (108.59t/h) and the largest double row primary fan used in a power plant (4600KW).

Representatives of relevant departments of the Indonesian government, the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, the Indonesian National Power Company (PLN) and all participating units attended the commissioning ceremony held in Indonesia.
