The world’s largest single-nozzle Texaco CWS gasifier, with a coal consumption capacity of 3,000 tons per day, was successfully ignited at the Yulin project of China Energy Chemicals Co., Ltd. at 10:48 p.m. on August 18, marking a major progress in the trial operation of the project.

World’s largest single-nozzle Texaco CWS gasifier at the Yulin project of China Energy Chemicals Co., Ltd.

The Yulin circular coal integrated utilization project (Phase I) of China Energy Chemicals includes a coal-to-methanol facility with a production capacity of 1.86 million tons per year and a syngas-to-ethanol facility with a production capacity of 400,000 tons per year. At present, most coal-to-methanol gasifiers with a production capacity above 1.8 million tons per year are installed by factor of 5:2 (namely, five in operation while two as backups). Normally, the daily output of a gasifier is 1,500 tons. Most projects are grappling with problems such as frequent furnace pouring, heavy maintenance burden, and high maintenance cost. Through designing, manufacturing and utilizing the first gasifier with a coal consumption capacity of 3,000 tons per day, the Yulin project achieved an operational ratio of three in operation and two backups. It not only enhances the output of a single furnace, reduces the number of furnaces operating at the same time and effectively reduces the overhauling frequency, but also increases the utilization of recycled fine cinders and enhances the carbon conversion efficiency. It is estimated that this will help the project annually save coal worth 9.8 million yuan.
