Longyuan Power’s Dafeng Phase II Offshore Wind Power Project Connected to Grid with Full Capacity

On December 24, with the impeller of the final wind turbine slowly starting to rotate, the 606.3MW Dafeng Phase II offshore wind power project of China Longyuan Power Group under China Energy was connected to the grid with full capacity for power generation.

The wind farm is located outside the waters of Dafeng Port, Jiangsu Province, with its center about 60 kilometers offshore. Totally, 94 sets of 6.45MW large-capacity offshore wind turbines are installed. Two 220kV offshore booster stations and an onshore centralized control center have been built, and more than 210 kilometers of submarine cables have been laid. The seabed topography for the site varies greatly with grooves in some parts, typical topographic features of radial sandbars, which made the construction difficult. This is the 12th offshore wind power project put into operation by Longyuan Power in Jiangsu, with which the company’s installed capacity of offshore wind power in Jiangsu has reached 2.18 million kilowatts.

The project took only 10 months to finish all processes from large-scale construction to full-capacity grid connection. During this period, industrial records were made such as finishing the sinking of 22 piles and hoisting of 28 turbines in a single month, which fully demonstrated Longyuan Power’s experience and capacity in offshore wind power construction. It is estimated that the project can provide about 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy for 460,000 urban residents every year, saving standard coal by 590,000 tons, carbon dioxide by 1.23 million tons, sulfur dioxide by 2,160 tons, nitrogen dioxide by 4,300 tons, and fresh water by 5.2 million tons, thus achieving remarkable economic and environmental benefits.
