The first floating photovoltaic power station of China Energy Shandong Branch—a 200 MW reservoir PV project undertaken by Liaocheng Company, was launched on December 28, 2021. This is China Energy’s largest single PV project on water, which has been listed as a preferred project for the conversion of new and old growth drivers in Shandong Province.

Occupying a water space of some 270 hectares, the project has a planned installed capacity of 200 MW. After completion, it is expected to annually generate about 220 million kWh, saving 690,000 tons of standard coal and reducing emissions of 42.2 tons of sulfur dioxide, 44 tons of nitrogen oxides, 189,000 tons of carbon dioxide, and 8.5 tons of soot per year. After the project is put into operation, it can effectively improve the power supply structure, reduce coal consumption, realize green and low-carbon energy transformation, and provide stable and high-quality green power support for local economic and social development.

Built on the water surface of reservoir, the photovoltaic power station integrates industrial water facilities and photovoltaic power generation, using high-density polyethylene floating box + floating PV brackets, monocrystalline silicon double-glass PV modules, and string inverter fixed on the floating body. Innovative technologies such as remote control, intelligent perception, and smart decision-making will be adopted in the project, which is scheduled to be put into operation in September 2022.
