From September 13 to 15, the project of integrated protection and systematic governance of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and deserts in Halagou, submitted by CHN Energy Shendong Coal, was listed in the National Typical Cases of Ecological Restoration and Multi-party Governance in Mining (2024) for its outstanding achievements in mining site ecological restoration.
In recent years, Shendong Coal has been committed to ecological restoration in mining areas. Starting from the ecological governance of the 72-square-kilometer mining area and subsidence zone of Halagou Coal Mine, Shendong Coal has focused on comprehensive land remediation and the industrialized development of sea buckthorn economic forests, significantly improving the ecological environment. Currently, 20 square kilometers of sea buckthorn economic forests and a 7-square-kilometer comprehensive demonstration area have been established, with vegetation coverage rising from 3% to over 64%. The plant community structure has significantly improved, with plant species increasing from 16 to over 100, and populations of microorganisms and animals have notably increased, effectively enhancing the regional ecological environment and transforming the former desert area into a vibrant oasis.
