Maerdang Hydropower Station, operated by CHN Energy's Qinghai Branch, has surpassed 400 million kWh in annual power generation, reaching 408 million kWh as of February 20th.
As the highest-altitude hydropower station within the Yellow River Basin, Maerdang Hydropower Station has a total installed capacity of 2.32 gigawatts, and is the centerpiece of the first hydro-wind-solar-storage integrated clean energy base in the upper Yellow River section of Qinghai, with a planned capacity exceeding 10 gigawatts.

Situated on the mainstream of the Yellow River between Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Golog Prefecture at an average elevation of 3,300 meters, Maerdang Hydropower Station is a crucial power source for China's West-East Power Transmission and Qinghai-Henan Electricity Transmission projects. The station officially began operations on December 31, 2024, after all generating units were connected to the grid.
Since its launch, the station has optimized unit operation and reservoir dispatch management to maximize hydroenergy utilization. It has also strengthened flood control and drought mitigation capabilities while ensuring safe and stable equipment operation. Furthermore, Maerdang Hydropower Station has pioneered an integrated hydro-wind-solar-storage model, synergistically combining water, wind and solar resources, laying a solid foundation for Qinghai's development as a hub for clean energy innovation and industrial growth.
