As of April 12, the distributed photovoltaic power projects at buildings on Dongyu Island and the agricultural-photovoltaic complementary power plant developed by CHN Energy Hainan Branch have generated 50.9408 million kWh of clean electricity.

The 2024 output will fully meet the annual electricity demand of the Boao Near-zero Carbon Demonstration Zone while supplying surplus green power to the grid, crucially supporting its recent upgrade from near-zero to full-zero carbon status.

Jointly established by China’s Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Hainan Province, the Boao Zero-carbon Demonstration Zone represents a flagship green development initiative. As one of four core implementers, CHN Energy Hainan Branch has engineered a comprehensive smart energy system integrating photovoltaic, micro-wind power, electrochemical storage and charging infrastructure across three key decarbonization sectors: renewable energy adoption, green transportation transformation and eco-building retrofitting. The island-based system, with 3.27MWp installed capacity spanning major facilities including the International Convention Center, Forum Hotel, parking lots and Media Center, generates approximately 4.6 million kWh annually. This translates to 8,912 tons of standard coal saved and 23,000 tons of CO2 emissions reduced yearly, establishing the project as a regional carbon-neutral power engine.

Since commissioning in March 2023, the company has enhanced operational efficiency through daily inspections, prompt maintenance and innovative smart IV diagnostics for photovoltaic systems – achieving comprehensive equipment monitoring that addresses existing faults, predicts potential issues and ensures optimal performance.

Recognized as China’s first zero-carbon operational zone certified by Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena), the project has been selected as a national model for both energy transition and urban renewal by Chinese authorities. Serving as a tangible blueprint for global low-carbon development, this initiative has become China’s iconic eco-card in green transformation.
