On July 12, the first joint ecological operation trial involving CHN Energy’s Pubugou, Shenxigou, Zhentouba I and Shaping II hydropower stations on the Dadu River was successfully completed. This trial aimed to promote ecological restoration in the Yangtze River basin by leveraging the ecological functions of cascade reservoirs.
During the trial, a coordinated "flow peak creation" method was implemented across the four reservoirs. By regulating water discharge to simulate rising and falling hydrographs, the operation stimulated the spawning of pelagic fish species in the middle reaches. Starting July 5th, the four stations adjusted their outflow continuously for four days, achieving an average daily flow increase of 366 cubic meters per second before gradually reducing discharge. This created suitable spawning conditions for fish species including the golden loach.
Dadu River Hydropower Development Co., Ltd, one of CHN Energy’s subsidiaries specializing in hydropower development, coordinated with water administration authorities, research institutions and other stakeholders, integrating flood control, power generation and ecological needs. The trial capitalized on rainfall-induced flow increases in early July. Monitoring results confirmed significant observed spawning activities at downstream sections during the operation, proving the trial effective.
