CHN Energy Projects Named in China-EU Energy Cooperation Exemplars

On August 19, two projects under CHN Energy’s Guohua Energy Investment Co., Ltd. were selected in the first batch of exemplary China-EU energy cooperation cases. These include the ongoing Sino-German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Vehicle Carbon Footprint and Sustainability Assessment Methodology Co-development Project, and the operational Dongtai Offshore Wind Power Project developed by the company’s Jiangsu Branch.


The Sino-German hydrogen initiative, supported by a National Key R&D Program, focuses on establishing a globally recognized methodology for assessing the carbon footprint of hydrogen and fuel cells. The project team has developed a hydrogen carbon footprint evaluation system while advancing patent strategies and standard formulation. This work provides robust methods and data to support low-carbon hydrogen development in China and promotes innovation and adoption of clean hydrogen technologies.


Located in the Tiaozini and Zhugensha coastal areas of east China’s Jiangsu Province, the Dongtai Offshore Wind Power Project is the first commercially operational Sino-French joint venture of its kind, with a total capacity of 500 MW. Its design allows aquaculture and fishing activities to coexist with wind power, creating a model of harmony between clean energy and traditional industries. Since its launch, the project has generated about 6.57 billion kWh of green electricity, enough to meet the annual needs of 8.99 million residents. It has received the National High-Quality Engineering Gold Award and the China Quality Installation Engineering Award, and in 2023 was recognized as a leading example of China-EU green and low-carbon development cooperation.

This collection of exemplary projects was guided by China’s National Energy Administration, featuring 19 cases across 12 European countries. The collaboration spans hydrogen, smart energy, new energy storage and offshore wind power, reflecting the multidimensional, in-depth and high-level nature of China-EU energy cooperation.
