On August 30, Suzhou Power Plant of CHN Energy Anhui Branch commissioned the nation’s largest 1,000 MWh coal power + molten salt energy storage project. This initiative represents a breakthrough in combined heat and power technology, offering new pathways for enhancing peak regulation and heating capacity in coal-fired units. As of the end of August 2025, CHN Energy  has put into operation 167 new energy storage projects, with a total capacity of 6,568 MW / 14,798 MWh.

Adhering to an innovation-driven development strategy, the Group has established a large-scale and diversified pattern in new energy storage development, characterized by new energy storage allocation as the main focus, with multi-scenario collaborative development. Nearly 90% of these projects are paired with new energy, significantly improving renewable energy integration and grid stability. Energy storage projects coupled with thermal power have demonstrated strong economic benefits, with frequency regulation projects at power plants such as Zhaoqing and Taishan generating cumulative revenues exceeding RMB 100 million. Shared and standalone energy storage projects have effectively enhanced system regulation capabilities. Baishu Energy Storage Station, Chongqing’s largest shared energy storage project, was recognized as a typical green and low-carbon case for 2024 by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, pioneering a diversified revenue model combining capacity leasing, auxiliary services and carbon asset development.

CHN Energy has achieved multiple major technological breakthroughs in the field of new energy storage. Boao Near-Zero Carbon Demonstration Zone in Hainan province applied the Group’s proprietary all-vanadium redox flow long-duration energy storage technology in an island building’s integrated photovoltaic, storage, direct current and flexible system, making it the first near-zero carbon operational zone officially certified by Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena). Ningdong Hybrid Photovoltaic Base commissioned the nation’s largest grid-forming energy storage power station, featuring the country’s first hybrid lithium battery + supercapacitor grid-forming energy storage project, which combines millisecond-to-hour-level energy storage with stable grid support. Lingwu Power Plant in Ningxia developed the world’s first 500 kW/125 kWh flywheel engineering application project, with over 90% of its core equipment domestically produced. It was included in the National Energy Administration’s fourth list of major technological equipment in the energy sector. Longshan Power Plant in Hebei pioneered a new model of thermal power unit coupled with molten salt heat storage, offering innovative solutions for flexibility retrofits in traditional coal-fired power plants. Penglai Power Plant in Shandong launched the country’s first integrated smart energy storage demonstration project, combining four storage technologies: lithium iron phosphate, sodium-ion, all-vanadium flow and flywheel.

Moving forward, the Group will deepen research on innovative energy storage technologies and expand multi-scenario engineering applications. It will accelerate breakthroughs in key technologies such as long-duration storage, hybrid storage and grid-forming storage, while advancing data integration and cloud-based energy storage platforms. The Group will also promote demonstration projects like the world’s first flue gas molten salt heat storage at Langfang Power Plant. The Department of Power Generation will work to refine technical standards for the entire energy storage process, improve the profitability of existing projects, and foster a competitive energy storage industry cluster. These efforts will provide critical support for building a new power system and driving the green and low-carbon transformation of the energy sector.
