On November 13, Ms. Azarine Raina Erwita Putri, an energy researcher at the World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia, led a delegation to CHN Energy’s Java Power Plant in Indonesia. The visit focused on reviewing the plant’s technological applications, environmental protection measures, and community engagement initiatives.

Ms. Azarine participated in the “World Youth Energy Tour” activity co-organized by CHN Energy and China International Communications Group in June this year, during which she visisted CHN Energy’s Guohua Investment HG14 offshore photovoltaic project in east China’s Shandong Province and the Pubugou Hydropower Station in southwest China’s  Sichuan Province.

The visit to Java Power Plant this time was Ms. Azarine’s another communication with CHN Energy followed by the “World Youth Energy Tour”. During the on-site assessment in Indonesia, Ms. Azarine stated that there remains considerable potential for future cooperation between China and Indonesia in the clean energy sector. She noted that collaboration with China, which holds a leading position in renewable energy technologies, could support Indonesia’s efforts to accelerate its energy transition, enhance energy security, reduce emissions, and advance sustainable development.

“This is very interesting. It is my first time seeing a simulation training system directly connected to a power plant,” said Aulia, a member of the WRI analyst team. After reviewing environmental technologies used at the plant, another analyst, Hitomi, observed that the Java Power Plant consumes less coal and operates with greater economic and environmental efficiency compared with conventional units. The delegation was also impressed by the plant’s mangrove conservation program, which they described as a meaningful demonstration of corporate social responsibility and a contribution to harmony between people and nature.

As a major energy project under the Belt and Road Initiative, the Java Power Plant has integrated advanced technology, environmental management, and community engagement into its planning and construction from the outset.  To date, the plant has continued to receive industry recognition for its operational efficiency, environmental performance, and technical management, and has been awarded multiple consecutive “PROPER” environmental ratings by Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
