Recently, Yantai Longyuan Power Technology under CHN Energy Technology & Environment Limited signed a contract with ESKOM, South Africa’s national power utility, in Johannesburg for the retrofit of coal-fired power plant boilers. The project involves combustion-area modifications to two units with capacities of 500 MW and 575 MW. The signing marks the first successful application of Yantai Longyuan’s clean coal combustion technology in South Africa, representing a major breakthrough in overseas markets.
The project focuses on applying clean and energy-efficient coal-fired power generation technologies to South African units. Drawing on its experience from thousands of boiler projects in energy-saving and clean combustion, Yantai Longyuan has aligned its technological strengths with ESKOM’s needs in energy efficiency and environmental protection. Targeting challenges such as aging equipment, complex structures, low availability and high fuel consumption, the project will serve as a first-of-its-kind demonstration application. Its core objectives are to achieve efficient startup and stable combustion, reduce fuel consumption and improve operational efficiency. Yantai Longyuan will provide integrated EPC services, including design, implementation, operation and maintenance, and training, delivering Chinese technologies and solutions to support the energy-efficient, high-performance and sustainable development of South Africa’s coal-fired power plants.
The implementation of this project will significantly advance the international application of energy-saving and environmental protection technologies of CHN Energy Technology & Environment Limited, deepen the strategic cooperation between CHN Energy and ESKOM, and contribute to CHN Energy’s high-quality participation in the Belt and Road Initiative.
