Recently, the Dongfeng 500-MW wind power project invested in and developed by China Shenhua Energy, a subsidiary of CHN Energy, achieved grid connection for its first batch of wind turbines. Located in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the project is one of the region’s planned Top Ten Wind Zones and forms part of the 20-GW wind power development capacity newly added by the autonomous region in 2024.

The project is designed to install 67 wind turbines, each with a single-unit capacity of 7.5 MW. Once fully commissioned, it is expected to generate about 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to saving approximately 365,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 982,000 tons each year.

During construction, the project faced challenges including tight equipment supply and harsh winter conditions characterized by extreme cold and strong winds. The project team established dedicated task forces and advanced the schedule by coordinating equipment production and transportation, optimizing construction procedures, and implementing cold-weather protection measures, ensuring the timely completion of key milestones.

At present, subsequent construction tasks are progressing as planned to achieve full-capacity grid connection and commercial operation. The project will provide a solid foundation for the company’s energy supply security and green transition, while injecting strong momentum into the development of regional renewable energy.
