Unit 5 of the 4×660 MW expansion project at CHN Energy Ningxia Tengger Zhongwei Power Plant was successfully connected to the grid for the first time in a single attempt at 18:00 on March 15. All systems of the unit operated smoothly, and key parameters accurately met design requirements, marking its official integration into the grid and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent 168-hour full-load trial operation and commercial power generation.

The expansion project serves as a key peak-shaving power source supporting the Ningxia–Hunan ±800 kV ultra-high-voltage direct current transmission project. As China’s first UHV transmission corridor primarily designed to deliver renewable energy from large-scale wind and photovoltaic bases in desert areas, the Gobi, and other arid areas, the Ningxia–Hunan DC project represents a major step in advancing the country’s green energy transition. The 4×660 MW expansion project at Ningxia Zhongwei Power Plant is designed to generate 11 billion kWh of electricity annually, and upon completion, it will provide stable power supply and voltage support for the transmission channel.
At present, the project team is steadily advancing defect elimination and final finishing works for the unit, while simultaneously initiating more than ten key post-grid-connection tests, including the 168-hour full-load trial operation. Every effort is being made to ensure the high-quality commissioning of Unit 5 and the full-capacity completion of the supporting peak-shaving power source.
