The results of the Short Film Unit of the 16th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) were announced recently. The hydrogen energy documentary How to Plan a Hydrogen Revolution, produced by the China Hydrogen Alliance in collaboration with the News Center of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, Guohua Energy Investment under CHN Energy, and Institute for Planets, stood out from over 1,300 entries and won the Energy China Excellent Short Film award.

The documentary took nearly a year to produce, with Guohua Energy Investment participating throughout in content co-creation and technical support. With revolution in production, transportation and consumption as the main thread, the film openly displays real-world scenarios of the entire hydrogen chain—production, storage, transportation, refueling and application—and integrates practical cases such as the Group’s Ningxia Ningdong Renewable Hydrogen Carbon Reduction Demonstration Project, the Marine Hydrogen Ammonia Methanol Integrated Project and the Chicheng Hydrogen Production Plant, transforming the professional industrial chain into audio-visual language easily understood by the public. After its release, the documentary topped the trending list.
BJIFF is hosted by China Media Group and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government. This year’s Energy China Excellent Short Film selection was launched in April 2026, attracting over 100 units from the national energy and power industry, with submissions covering electricity, oil and gas, coal, new energy and other fields. How to Plan a Hydrogen Revolution is the only hydrogen-themed short film to win an award in this year’s selection.
