The spring breeze of southern Fujian, softened by the nearby sea, sweeps year after year through Dongdian and Wubao villages surrounding CHN Energy Fujian Shishi Company in south China’s Fujian province. Here, this locally rooted energy enterprise has gone beyond paper promises, embedding its support into children’s desks and elders’ tea tables in tangible ways.
Replacing old desks, lighting up new classrooms
In the early morning light, clear voices of reading fill a fourth-grade classroom at Fumin Primary School in Wubao Village. Brand-new desks and chairs have replaced the old, wobbly ones, eye-friendly lamps brighten the blackboard, and the reading corner is stacked with popular science picture books and classic literature.

“On cloudy days, we used to struggle to see the blackboard. Now everything is new, and classes are so much more enjoyable,” said student Cai Xiaoyu, smiling as she held a newly borrowed extracurricular book.
These changes stem from targeted assistance swiftly arranged after Fujian Shishi Company conducted on-site visits and coordinated with the municipal charity federation. Dedicated funds were precisely allocated to two primary schools in Dongdian and Wubao villages for equipment upgrades and environmental improvements. Watching children running across the campus, Principal Li of Dongdian Village Primary School reflected, “The company’s support goes beyond hardware improvements. It brings warmth to the children’s hearts and gives us greater confidence in running the school.”
As the foundation of basic education strengthened, support extended to local secondary schools. Fujian Shishi Company, together with the municipal education foundation, made targeted donations to Shishi No.1 Middle School and Shiguang Middle School.
In the newly upgraded physics, chemistry and biology labs at Shishi No.1 Middle School, second-year student Wu Chenglin focused intently on his experiment. “The old equipment used to limit us. Now we can truly experience the charm of science. It’s completely different!” In Shiguang Middle School, newly installed multimedia teaching systems have made classrooms more dynamic and efficient. As Principal Ye noted, this support has added momentum to students’ growth and brought warmth to their academic journey.
Renovating old courtyards, preserving joyful later years
As classrooms have brightened for children, afternoons have become more pleasant for the elderly.
Sunlight gently fills the courtyard of the Wubao Village Elderly Association, where seniors gather in small groups, some playing chess around solid wooden tables, others stretching at the fitness area.

“Before, there were only a few worn benches, and it wasn’t even convenient to sit and rest. Now we have new chairs and game tables, and we come here every day to spend time together,” said 79-year-old Mr. Zhang, sipping tea after a chess game, looking content.
The elderly associations in Wubao and Dongdian villages once had outdated facilities. After learning of the situation, Fujian Shishi Company allocated dedicated funds to renovate the courtyards, repainting walls, leveling the ground and adding leisure seating, transforming the once shabby spaces into happy havens cherished by the elderly. As resident Ms. Chen of Wubao Village put it, “The company truly cares about us seniors and brings real improvements right to our doorstep. Neighbors like this earn our heartfelt appreciation.”
Standing firm through typhoons, safeguarding every light
As night falls, the villages grow quiet. Just beyond a wall, however, the units at Fujian Shishi Company continue to operate steadily. Streams of electricity flow outward, lighting up streets and homes across the city.

As a cornerstone of energy supply, the plant’s power security mission allows no room for error. In 2025, in the face of extreme weather such as Typhoon Danas, all employees stood firm day and night against fierce winds and heavy rain, delivering an annual power output of 11.67 billion kWh; meanwhile, green photovoltaic generation advanced steadily, with annual output exceeding 70 million kWh.
In 2026, this energy engine continues to run strong. As of March 12, the company’s cumulative power generation had surpassed 2 billion kWh.
Inside the plant, machines roar without pause; outside its walls, village life unfolds in warmth and continuity. From the crisp morning recitations at Fumin Primary School to the gentle sounds of chess pieces in old courtyards, the story of a power plant and its neighboring villages is quietly written through years of companionship.
As night deepens, the ever-burning light not only illuminates distant cities but also warmly sustains the neighboring communities just beyond the wall.
