The Batuta Hydrogen Refueling Station operated by CHN Energy, the country’s first hydrogen refueling station for heavy-haul railways, has delivered a cumulative hydrogen refueling volume exceeding 10,000 kilograms as of April 16. The achievement marks a phased breakthrough in the large-scale application of hydrogen energy technology in China’s heavy-haul railway sector, providing practical data support for infrastructure development and the commercial operation of the hydrogen energy industry.

Batuta Hydrogen Refueling Station

Located in Ejin Horo Banner, Ordos, north China’s Inner Mongolia, the Batuta Hydrogen Refueling Station officially commenced commercial operations on June 2, 2024, with a daily hydrogen refueling capacity of 500 kilograms. The station primarily serves high-power hydrogen-powered shunting locomotives and zero-emission catenary maintenance vehicles powered by a hydrogen fuel cell + lithium battery system. The station’s total hydrogen storage capacity reaches 800 kilograms, with a maximum refueling flow rate of 7.2 kilograms per minute.

In terms of daily operations and safety assurance, the station has fully upgraded its intelligent and digitalized operational system. By integrating technical control with digital monitoring, it effectively ensures the safety and stability of key refueling equipment during long-term operation, while continuously enhancing overall management capability and operational efficiency of this hydrogen energy demonstration project.
