The Rudong Integrated Solar-Hydrogen-Storage Project, developed by CHN Energy Guohua Energy Investment Jiangsu Branch at Yangkou Port in Rudong, east China’s Jiangsu Province was completed on June 10. As the largest project of its kind in China, it marks the launch of an integrated operating model that coordinates power generation, grid connection, load management, energy storage and hydrogen production.

Photovoltaic facilities of the Rudong Integrated Solar-Hydrogen-Storage Project

The project is a key construction unit within China’s third batch of large-scale photovoltaic base projects. Its integrated system combines a 400-megawatt photovoltaic power plant, a 60-megawatt/120-megawatt-hour energy storage station, and a green hydrogen production facility with a capacity of 1,500 standard cubic meters per hour, forming a complete industrial chain covering green power generation, storage and conversion.

The photovoltaic facilities are expected to generate 468 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to meet the basic annual electricity needs of approximately 200,000 households while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 300,000 tons each year. The supporting energy storage station helps smooth fluctuations in grid output and enhances the grid’s capacity to absorb renewable energy.

The hydrogen production facility is capable of producing 482 tons of high-purity green hydrogen annually, creating a zero-carbon closed-loop system that converts green electricity into green hydrogen. The hydrogen will be supplied to the Yangtze River Delta region, while a supporting hydrogen refueling station has also been put into operation, completing the entire green hydrogen application chain.

The project has now completed full-system joint commissioning, with all performance indicators meeting design requirements. Going forward, the project will continue to optimize its integrated operating model, using green electricity as the foundation, hydrogen energy as the bridge, and energy storage as the safeguard. It will support the Yangtze River Delta region in building a clean, low-carbon, safe and highly efficient modern energy system, while contributing a CHN Energy model to China’s energy transition and green development.
