Ningxia wind power project completes transmission line connection

With the successful connection of the Duxiang Line I and Duyue Line I to the State Grid Tiandushan 750-kilovolt Substation, CHN Energy Longyuan Power achieved a major construction milestone on the 1.5-gigawatt wind power project at the Zhongwei section of the Tengger Desert New Energy Base in Ningxia, northwestern China on June 15. The transmission line of the project's Changle 330-kilovolt transmission and transformation engineering was fully completed, laying a solid foundation for the project's successful grid connection.

The 1.5-gigawatt Zhongwei wind power project is located in Changle Town, Xiangshan Township, Xingren Town and Yongkang Town of Shapotou District, Zhongwei City in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. As a key supporting power source for the Ningxia-to-Hunan ultra-high-voltage power transmission project, it is planned to install 16 wind turbines with a capacity of 6.25 megawatts each, 126 turbines rated at 7.15 megawatts each, and 67 turbines rated at 7.5 megawatts each. The project also includes the construction of four 110-kilovolt booster substations and one 330-kilovolt booster substation. The newly completed transmission corridor consists of two 30.45-kilometer 330-kilovolt overhead transmission lines, which connect to the State Grid Tiandushan 750-kilovolt Substation to enable efficient long-distance power transmission and grid integration. 

Upon completion and commissioning, the project is expected to generate approximately 3.07 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. It will effectively unlock the renewable energy potential of Ningxia's desert areas, the Gobi and other arid areas, optimize the region's energy mix, provide reliable electricity supplies to Hunan Province, and strongly support the implementation of China's West-to-East Power Transmission strategy while contributing to the development of the regional clean energy industry and the country's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
