The group standard Automated Testing Methods for Coal Used in Power Generation (T/CEC 1341-2026), led and primarily drafted by the Nanjing Branch of CHN Energy Science and Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd., was officially approved and released by the China Electricity Council on August 24. It will take effect on November 30, 2026. As the first domestic standard for automated coal quality testing methods based on chemical analysis technology, the standard aims to further standardize the application of automated testing technologies for routine coal quality indicators in the power generation industry and promote high-quality industry development.

In recent years, automated testing technology has been increasingly adopted in coal quality testing. However, due to the lack of unified testing method standards, its results have not gained standardized industry recognition in key areas such as trade settlement and certification and accreditation, becoming a major bottleneck restricting the widespread adoption and in-depth application of the technology.
To address this industry challenge, the standard systematically specifies key technical aspects, including testing methods, instruments and equipment, testing procedures, result calculations and precision, for the first time. It effectively addresses the longstanding lack of applicable standards in the industry and provides standardized support for the authority and traceability of automated testing results.
The implementation of the standard marks the formal incorporation of automated testing technology into the industry's standardized management system. It is of great significance for promoting the transformation and upgrading of coal quality testing toward automation and intelligent technologies, and will provide important technical support for enhancing the industry's coal quality testing capabilities and ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power system.
