On October 14, the first shared energy storage station developed by the Jiangsu Branch of CHN Energy Guohua Energy Investment in eastern China, with a capacity of 60 MW/120 MWh, achieved full-capacity grid connection.
The station provides robust peak-shaving support for the safe and stable operation of the regional power grid and the efficient integration of renewable energy. It is part of China's first project combining integrated energy utilization with coastal ecological management and the country's largest offshore tidal-flat photovoltaic demonstration project integrating solar power, hydrogen production and energy storage.

The Rudong solar-hydrogen-storage power station
Located on tidal flats outside the seawall in the Yudong reclamation area of Rudong County, Nantong, Jiangsu Province, the station has an AC-side capacity of 60 MW/120 MWh. It is equipped with 27 energy storage battery containers, each with a capacity of 5 MWh, 13 prefabricated integrated power conversion and step-up transformer units rated at 5 MW each, and one such unit rated at 2.5 MW. The station is expected to discharge approximately 12 million kWh of electricity to the grid annually, equivalent to saving around 1,500 metric tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 3,600 metric tons, while continuously improving the local ecological environment.
Serving as a giant "power bank" on the tidal flats, the station will charge and discharge electricity under the unified dispatch of the Jiangsu power grid, coordinating operations with the photovoltaic power station and hydrogen production loads to balance demand and avoid peak periods. When solar power generation peaks and the grid has limited capacity to absorb electricity, surplus power will be prioritized for storage in the batteries.
Once the hydrogen production station becomes operational, hydrogen production equipment will ramp up output accordingly, converting surplus electricity into hydrogen that can be stored for extended periods. During periods of peak electricity demand, when additional peak-shaving support is needed, the energy storage station will rapidly discharge electricity to meet peak demand, while hydrogen production loads will reduce their electricity consumption to free up power for the grid.
