CHN Energy recently connected its Jicuo 100 MW Wind-Storage Project in Nagqu, Xizang Autonomous Region in southwest China, to the grid and brought it into operation. It is the largest wind-storage integrated project by installed capacity in China's ultra-high-altitude regions.
Located in Seni District, Nagqu, the project site has an average elevation of 5,020 meters, with the highest turbine site reaching 5,127 meters. The project comprises 18 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5.56 MW, and a supporting 20 MW/80 MWh grid-forming energy storage system. It is expected to deliver approximately 211 million kWh of clean electricity annually. The project will play an important role in strengthening the power supply capacity and stability of the Nagqu regional grid, ensuring that local farming and herding communities stay warm through the winter, and promoting rural revitalization.

CHN Energy Xizang Branch has consistently prioritized workplace safety and environmental protection. It conducts regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure that high-risk operations, including high-altitude lifting, are carried out safely and under control. The company has also developed innovative techniques for removing and maintaining highland turf, ensuring that plant root systems remain intact and facilitating vegetation recovery.
In addition, it has stepped up technological innovation, filing four invention patent applications and five utility model patent applications. Its research and application of high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete for ultra-high-altitude environments has been appraised as reaching an internationally advanced level, providing valuable technical experience for the construction of wind-storage projects in such challenging conditions.
CHN Energy Xizang Branch continues to intensify its efforts to develop clean energy projects. At the end of 2023, it completed and commissioned the 100 MW Oumatingga Wind Power Project in Nagqu, which set multiple records for wind power projects in ultra-high-altitude regions. As of the end of October, the company's total installed capacity of operational renewable energy projects in Xizang, including centralized and distributed photovoltaic power and wind power, had reached 389 MW. It has also built and operated Xizang's first centralized grid-connected photovoltaic power station, Xizang's first wind farm—which was also the world's highest-altitude wind farm at the time—and the world's first large-scale off-grid wind-solar energy storage power station, making a positive contribution to clean energy development on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.
